Prime Lennox Lewis would destroy Prime Mike Tyson?

Tyson was always afraid of Lewis. So much that he refused to fight Lewis in 96 and was consequently stripped of his WBC belt.

A prime Mike Tyson who was a 42-1 favorite against journeyman Buster Douglas was KO'd in 10 rounds. Prime Lewis was only KO'd once by Oliver McCall and McCall regularly beat Tyson in sparring. Rahman fought a post-prime Lewis who was 36.

Tyson's resume is very weak, he has guys like Tony Tucker and Bonecrusher Smith as wins but Lewis has guys like David Tua, Evander Holyfield, Tommy Morrison, etc.

Update:

Prime Tyson would get beat by David Tua.

Update 2:

Nobody has ever KO'd David Tua. And Tua never loses stamina.

The only person that knocked Tua was tested positive for PED's.

Really, Tyson didn't fight Lewis's caliber. Fact.

Lennox Lewis whipped Tyson very easily when Tyson was not in his prime. Lennox Lewis would still beat him if he was in his prime. No way Lewis could lose.

I think everyone forgot about the first round of the Lewis/Tyson fight. Tyson nearly had him beat. If Tyson was in his prime he would have relentlessly pounded nonstop with both arms swinging the most power that Lewis had ever seen before while bobbing and weaving his punches. Knocking Lewis out in the first round as he did so many other of his opponents. Mike Tyson brought boxing back from the dead. Lennox Lewis would have never been remembered if it weren't for Tyson. All of boxing owes it to Iron Mike for rebirthing it into what it is today! Look up some of Tysons fights in his prime on YouTube and compare to Lewis' s and you'll be able to decide yourself. HANDS DOWN TYSON WINS EVERYTIME! The greatest knockout king of all time: Iron Mike Tyson!

Mike Tyson, at his very best (i.e.early Tyson) was a fine heavyweight. He had terrific head movement, an overlooked jab that set up his hooks, great speed, and tremendous power in both hands.

He is easily a top 50 all-time heavyweight, and maybe even a contender for a top 30 spot.

His limitations are a tendency to give up under pressure, a peek-a-boo style that required such reflexes and speed that it was suitable only to a young fighter, and a great weakness against fighters who held on or who were pure boxers.

The other thing that plagued Tyson was his frustration when facing dirty tactics, although he often used them himself.

So, with James Smith we see the holding giving Tyson problems, and at the end of the fight he really got nailed, although of course he won.

With Hollyfield, the headbutts were a big issue, and Tyson pretty much lost it, because he culd not deal with it.

And Buster Douglas showed what a boxer's jab could do to the peek-a-boo style. Game over.

So, Tyson, while great, had his issues.

Lewis, on the other hand, while a late bloomer, had few weaknesses. Many people say he had a weak chin, but if you examine his competition, he took some terrible shots and kept going. Lewis was a highly skilled technical boxer with a thunderous jab, vicious right cross, unbelievable agility for a big man....and he was BIG.

While I believe quite a few of the all-time great heavyweights could beat Lewis, they would not do so without a considerable struggle. The only boxers who would out-class him would be Ali, a prime Foreman, Joe Louis, and Marciano. Others would beat him, but they would not walk away unscathed.

Lewis demonstrated that he could handle swarmers, boxer-punchers, dirty fighters, holding, and was intelligent enough to out-think and adapt to opponents.

Tyson may have been having an off-night when he fought Douglas, (and he had fired Rooney).....but he was still in his prime, and it was pretty obvious any good boxer could beat him.

Lewis, being better than just good, would beat Tyson every single time.

    No contest.

    Next topic.

Lewis was ducked by everyone in early 90's, he was big, dangerous, and not so popular. The thing about Prime Tyson that will always be a big ?, negatively because he was untested, and in his defense who ever saw some one so powerful, and as explosive ?

Prime vs Prime. Lewis by UD, but it would be much different, then their actual fight, Lewis got better with age, and Tyson was over 10 years past his best days, in their actual fight. A 23 year old Tyson was unpredictable and aggressive. Def. a tough match up for Lewis.

This is a difficult question to answer. I have probably seen just about all of Tysons fights and the majority of Lewis's. I used to be a huge Tyson fan. I firmly believe that had he fought Evander prior to going to prison, prior to Cus passing on he would have destroyed him. However where Lewis is concerned Tyson had difficulty with taller bigger fighters He went the distance with Bonecrusher Smith and Terrible Tony tucker. Even though he landed the better more devastating punches both fighters were able to nuetralize him somewhat. Also if you remember another big tall fighter Razor Ruddock gave him all he could handle until Tyson caught him in the 11th with some devastating shots. I think the only way Tyson would have been able to beat Lewis if he was able to get inside. Which he may or may not have been able to do. Lewis and Tyson sparred in Catskills when they were both amatuers training for the olympics and from what I read Lewis got the best of Tyson. Cus seemed to really inspire Tyson. For this reason I say Tyson catches him just like Oliver Mccall did and the Rock did. Tyson used to have great head movement and side to side lateral movement. He used to mythodically set fighters up for the fall. He also had blazing speed something he noticeably lost when he did fight Lewis years later. Even if he didnt knock Lewis out he would have won the bout the same way he was able to beat the three fighters I mentioned. He just would have landed the better shots. The main reason Tyson was knocked out by Lewis other than the fact that he should have never fought him. he needed way more training. He needed to find the eye of the tiger he used to have, was because he stood right in front of him like a sacrificial lamb waiting to slaughtered. The old Tyson would have moved his head moved his body and his feet and would have thrown punches with so much more fury with so much more velocity. He was a broken fighter when he fought Lewis. I still think had Tyson not have been cut from the so called accidental head butt he would have beaten Evander in both fights. Not to get off the subject, if you look closely before he bit Evanders ear and then bit his other ear after getting a warning Tyson was landing the more telling blows. He just didnt like the fact he was cut from a butt again and he snapped. I wish to God he would have just finished that fight. I think He would have knocked Evander out or the fight would have went to the score cards after 4 rds and Tyson may have won a close decision. Either way I say Tyson would have won if he fought Lewis in his prime.

Mike Tyson has more title defenses than Lennox Lewis.

The rest is speculation, not fact.

Lennox Lewis old at 36? But his best performance ever was at age 37 & in that performance Lennox himself said; ''I'm like fine whine, i get better with age'' And then he dodged Wladimir Klitschko

I think if the Prime Lennox had to fight the Prime Tyson during The time of Tysons Reign before he got all messed up by Robin, King, and everyone else who got into his head, Tyson would have one. He was a much more focused fighter back then and the fear factor would have been much greater back then.
