How can I get help drawing faces in Adobe Illustrator?
This image is for a project in which I am taking four actors that played the Doctor in Doctor Who, to be specific and rendering them in Illustrator. I've spent the past week and a half trying to draw the faces to no avail. I can draw everything else with little difficulty, but I've never been able to draw faces to save my life. I have looked at other renderings of the actors to see how other artists have drawn them, but it hasn't helped. I'm at my wit's end, I don't know what to do, and if I can't get the faces right, I'll have to abandon the entire project.
I would appreciate any and all help that can be provided. Thanks.

Hi Tim D - I will definitely try the Threshold filter. It is not one I normally use.
You bring up a great point, and that is the light source. David Tennant (the foremost figure) is lit from my upper left, while Christopher Eccleston (second from left in the black leather jacket) is lit by a spotlight almost directly above him. I plan to light all four figures from my upper left, as the TARDIS (the blue Police Box time machine) will look best when lit from that direction. My image of Christopher is quite bad, and in my haste, I scaled everyone to match, which of course makes them more pixelated. I'll work on each in the original scale and just transpose the vector imagery to this image to get the scale right.
I'll post an update or two as I progress.
There is a reason I don't use the Threshold filter often, and that is because I don't seem to have it. I learned on pre-CS versions of P and I, which shows how long ago I went to school, and I just can't update to new versions on a shoestring budget. I use CS2, purchased second-hand several years ago and now, to my disgust, available for free download. Any additional ideas?

Take your image into Photoshop and run the Threshold filter over it – this will help you identify the darkest areas when you draw it in Illustrator.
It would help if you have a similar light source for each of the characters – you will have to take this into account when you draw.
