How do I get my A+ certification?

I currently work in an IT related area with my employer and have been doing so for years. New management has come in and they want to see each of us have our A+ cert done.

I know it involves some study and testing and I'm not overly concerned. I'll just work through the process. I'm curious what the process is though. Is it sonething I need to do online, through my local community/tech college or through a specialized IT school of some sort? I'm looking for insight specific to Canada as well too...if that makes a difference.

Thanks

When I first got my Comptia A+ certification back in October 2010, I mainly use my experience in college and I also use some of the videos that I had watched to help me practice for the Comptia A+ certification exam (don't know which videos I had used for it).

Thesedays, most Comptia exams (including the A+ certification) consists of multiple choice questions and also, "performance-based questions".

Performance-based questions are sort of like scenario-based questions. You have perform a question in the form of a simulator and then answer the question that corresponds to that simulation. Full details can be founded here: http://certification.comptia.org/news/2012/10/09/W...

Many colleges and universities (private or public) offer a testing centre (or center) that is certified to do career certification exams (like the Comptia A+ certification).

Up until the end of 2010, Comptia used to do the so-called "certified for life" stuff, meaning that your Comptia certification is valid for life. However, that changed back in 2011 and Comptia certifications are valid for three years. After three years, you have to "re-certify".

To locate a testing centre near you to write your Comptia A+ certification, you can visit their website at http://www.pearsonvue.com/

I hope this helps and good luck studying for the Comptia A+ exam!
