What do six year old boys like? Small and cheap things?

I mentor/tutor this six year old boy for community service once a week. He's sweet, but very stubborn! I'm supposed to be helping him with his reading, but he likes to just skip over words he doesn't know and gets mad if I make him go back. I've been doing this for a couple years now and I've never had a kid as stubborn as him.. So I promised if he tried really hard and always went back, that I'd bring him something every week. I'm in high school, so I'm talking a buck or two.. The only thing I can think of is candy? But what else is there?

Update:

What about coloring books, stickers, flashcards? Do those work... or too girly?

Update 2:

And should I give it to him before he starts every week or should I wait until he's done?

How about small things like matchbox cars($1 at walmart) or check the dollar store for dinosaurs they are ALWAYS a hit with kids...boys and girls:)

Maybe give him a long term incentive of if he reads a book(age level appropriate) EVERY word then he gets a basket ball or soccer ball or football(whatever he is into)...or if you can a trip to the ice cream shop...or the park and maybe give him a badge to wear saying #1 Reader...they LOVE that.

You are doing a great thing! Keep up the good work!!

You can go to any half price book store and find kids books for a dollar or two. You could capture his attention with a good adventure book. You should find something to reward him that will also be stimulating to his mind

I love that you are concerned about this child...OK, my girlfriend boy did this, she had his EYES checked....that was the problem with him. Another friend of mine, had her child tested, this child has dyslexia...may want to check out any health issues...
