Should I do a solo? Ideas?
So I'm a competitive dancer and my family just moved to a new town this year, I found a new studio and I'm on the competitive team already and it's great. But one of my teachers asked if I was doing a solo, I'm not so I said no, and she asked me why and that I should do one because I'm a really strong dancer on the team and she really wants me to have one. I told her I'd think about it. Since this is my first year dancing with this studio and I've never actually done a solo before I'm kind of unsure weather I should do one or not. What do you think? Should I wait till next year?
If you think I should do one what style? Just based on your opinion alone, what style would you pick? I do Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical/ Contemporary , Tap, Acro. I'd prefer to do either a Jazz, Lyrical, or Contemporary dance as those are my strongest styles.
Also could you suggest some songs?
Thanks for listening to my mini rant!

go for it!! solo's are great & it'll give you extra one on one practice with a teacher at your new studio. it will also make you a stronger, independant dancer! i love lyrical solo's because they can be fast or slow and very very powerful. here are some songs:
jar of hearts - christina perry
the scientist - coldplay
innocent - taylor swift
give me love - ed sheeran
skinny love - birdy

Sure, do it. Take opportunities to preform every chance you get. It might take more of an effort to do both, but the results will be good. You will becoming stronger in all area's of dance. Also, since you seem to have alot of power in that area already. My feelings would be for you to try some pretty thrilling music with it. Like, 'Thiller'~Micheal Jackson (by watching alot of his video's, you see how well he was with dancing. How much energy he put into that, takes alot of strenght.
