Do violent video games make you more violent?

I am 18 years old... yes that is 1 WHOLE year over the 17 year age limit to buy M games. However even though i am LEGALLY entitled to play GTA V, my parents are forcing me to sell my copy because they think because I am diagnosed with AUTISM that my mind is more impressionable to violent thoughts. They also read what is in my opinion a severely biased article that said violent video games cause most mass shootings and cause murders i.e. Newton. In the article they read it said "Companies saying video games do not cause violence are like tobacco companies saying cigarettes do not kill" They think that I will be more impressed to kill cops and bystanders just because I do that in GTA. Is there and articles you know of in SUPPORT of video games and could you guys list a few GOOD reasons as to WHY or why NOT I should play this game! Thanks.

I have Autism too and I have played violent games all the time. First played GTA when I was like 11.

That thing about the companies saying games don't cause violence are like tobacco companies saying cigarettes do not kill. That is a very bad comparison, cigarettes are scientifically proven to cause possibly fatal health problems, violent video games have never been scientifically proven to cause violence.

I'd also like to say when I have to do something horrible in a game, I feel horrible doing it, I only played GTA to mess around, I don't think of the people in GTA as real people, more as Ragdolls. If a game character has a developed personality then doing something horrible to them makes me feel horrible.

It isn't video games that cause violence, people who are violent are brought up along with violence in their lives, getting frustrated from not being able to do something in a game makes them angrily violent.

If I get frustrated from a game I just let out an annoyed sigh and try again since I wasn't brought up in a violent environment.

I forgot to mention, despite all the swearing in these video games I never swear, and I never have sweared in the 20 years of my life so far.

bull$hit video games are just society's scape goat to violence as well as guns "take away guns and violent games and the violence will stop" -__- but really u are 18 years old and u have the right to have it if u worked for it and unless you really have a mental promblem or something then you should have it mentally unstable people should not be playing gta btw gta best game of the year dont sell it before gta online dude good luck

I have been playing violent video games for over 15 years, and I am not a violent person at all unless you consider airsoft, going to the shooting range, and tearing down walls during renovations as violence.

It mainly depends on your behavior in school or at home. But if your a good kid and will not mean any harm and just want to try out a violent video game, then no it is ok
