Urgent help needed from PS3 experts!?

I pre-bought GTA V on PSN and when I tried to download it my system said "You need 6.7 more GB to download this". I currently have 31/37 GB available on my 40 GB 2006 model PS3. I deleted ALL my game data utility, ALL my save data utility, ALL my online saves/updates/patches, I deleted PS home, and I even did a factory reset of my system and I STILL only have 31 GB!!! You need 36 GB to download the game even though on psn it says "17.5 GB". Is there anyway possible without buying another ps3 hdd to get more space on my system. I would really feel bad if I have already bought the game but cannot download it because I wasted 59.99!

    Unfortunately, no.

The PS3 system always requires you to have a minimum of 2X the needed space when you download and install something. So if you're downloading a 10GB game, the system requires at least 20GB of free space.

However, one of the best features of the PS3 (and soon to be PS4) is the ability to upgrade the HDD without voiding the warranty. (assuming you're in the US/Canada) ANY capacity 2.5" Serial-ATA HDD that runs at 5400RPM will suffice. You CAN go up to 7200RPM, though I would not recommend it. So go buy a HDD that's at least 60GB, which is the minimum you'll need to be able to install GTAV, then follow the instructions in the following video for step by step instructions on how to replace the hard drive. Super easy. Good luck!

because you opted to download it you will need the 17GB to download it and another 17GB to then install after it is installed it will only be the original 17.5 so no there is no way with the hdd you have however you can go to walmart and buy a external hard drive that you plug in to your playstation via a usd wire download the file to this then install it on your ps3s hdd this also comes in handy for data transfers movies and taking your game save to a friends house i always keep my external hdd handy just for stuff like this

Just buy a notebook hard drive for your ps3. Then you will have enough space.

    Here's an 80gb hard drive for $30.
