How come my dog doesn't like me?

Question

I have a small dog that only likes my mom. She sometimes follows her around but mostly just sleeps and stays in her crate. She doesn't like going on walks or sitting with or around me. I sometimes take her to my room or with me to the basement to sit with me but she always just tries to leave. I haven't done anything to hurt her but she doesn't like me. Sometimes she's friendly but I think it's just when she's hungry haha. She is around 8 years old. What can I do for her to be friends with me?

Some dogs are just one-person dogs.

But you could try being the primary caretaker for the dog.  If you do all the feeding, give her special attention,  give her treats,  etc, maybe she will come around.

Some dogs, Chihuahuas for example, tend to bond with only one person. If you can drive and she is sociable enough, try taking her to a pet store as a special activity. Walk around and she can ride in the shopping cart.

we got a dog recently that acted like that. We then found out she was pregnant, but i dont know if that is why. we have just given her treats and petted her somewhat shyly until she got used to us. dont be aggressive at all until she likes you, unless it is for discipline. eventually she should start to like you. be patient.
