What motivates someone to commit a brutal crime like this? I'm not interested in judgmental or emotional?

answers. I'm looking for facts, research, thoughtful insight, or first-hand experience. What makes someone *want* to do this, and how are they able to set aside feelings of compassion for others? This guy was previously convicted of raping an 11 yo girl and then attacking three members of her family. Do you think a person like this can be rehabilitated?

From http://www.nbcnews.com/id/52029121/ns/us_news/t/ma... :

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - A 24-year-old man has been charged with killing an elderly couple and raping their 2-year-old great-grandchild, in a crime that occurred just hours after he was released from prison in a separate sexual-assault case, state officials said on Tuesday.

Jerry Active was arrested on Saturday by police and has been charged in the murders of Sorn Sreap, 71, and her husband, Touch Chea, 73, and the rape of the toddler they were babysitting that night. Active is also charged with raping Sreap.

I thank God ordinary people like me will never really know how that kind of person thinks. Clearly a sick and twisted mind.

Basic facts... the person is dis inhibited... they feel able to do things other people would not do. The person lacks empathy... they don't understand or care about other people. The person is narcissistic... they believe the world should bend to their wishes. The person either has reckless disregard for the consequences or believes they will get away with it.

Why do people do what they do... because they can.

From what I have studied, I believe that it derives from the upbringing. A child that lacks the ability to sympathize/empathize will more likely grow up to commit a brutal crime. The lack of a positive role model can also deteriorate the upbringing of a child. Being exposed to violence at a young age could trigger violent intentions once the child is an adult. The motivation for actually committing the crime...I believe it varies depending on the individual's circumstance. For the most part, whatever the motivation is, has to be something that allows to person committing the crime to have a sense of justification or satisfaction. For some, it might even make sense. Take Hitler for instance. He justified the mass killings of innocents because he was a firm believer in extreme Marxist views. He thought they deserved to die because they were weak. Anyone that deserves to live will be able to defend themselves. That's just an example. So truly, I think the motivation to commit a brutal crime derives from childhood and the child's upbringing.

Obviously, this one cannot be rehabilitated. Or perhaps he could be by an incredibly strong and superior therapist, not by a weaker person though. Psychiatry and psychology are among the professions with the highest rate of suicide because therapists are exposed to bullies every day from 9h to 5h: bullies will be bullies: they destroy others. They have too much negative energy in their hearts, not their fault but dangerous.

    This shows me 2 things:

people like this are ugly demons and

the justice system is just as much to blame as the repulsive pig is set free.
