Snowboarding Or Skiing?

Im 14 (female) and yesterday i went skiing for the first time. It was fun, but i want a challenge ! Skiing isn't that hard. Even if its hard to master it and stuff i still wanna try snowboarding..

My parents aren't too sure about me starting snowboard. They say its really really hard and ill be sore, and that ill probably wont like it. But how am i supposed to know if i like it or not if i don't try it ??? im probabaly gonna rent a snowboard, just like i rented skies.

As much info as possible please :)

Is it a good idea to try next time we go up to ski and try to learn by myself, take classes maybe ? Or should i stuck to skiing 100% ?? :$

    Hello!

My name is Ulrik and I've been snowboarding for almost 11 years now (I'm 17).

Snowboarding is (in my opinion) by far the best looking sport and the most enjoyable to perform. Developing skill within the ART of snowboarding is very difficult, but it does fall naturally to some people.

Snowboarding requires a lot of patience when you've just started. It requires balance (which you will develope quickly, but the better balance the easier it becomes) since you're locked onto a moving, turning and bending board. It also requires you to be a little bit hardened and tough. You will fall (and I'm not joking) probably about 1000 times before you REALLY get the hang of it, unless it falls naturally to you. Turning, slowing down and taking the lifts to the top of the track can be very difficult.

I started snowboarding as a 6 year old and I've done it almost every week since. I remember falling so many times and swearing a lot. I had some small bruises all over my body due to falling, but I kept going and thats what you should do too.

It may sound like I'm saying that snowboarding is practically impossible, but it isn't. Learn it ad you're a star.

In my opinion Snowboarding looks A LOT better than twin-tip riders (since these are the guys you're competing with, except for other snowboarders. I'm excluding regular skiiers because they arent considered riders in my opinion). A good snowboarder looks very good. Carving, railing and jumping is a beauty to look at when snowboarding, not so much when you're twin-tippin'.

I also want to note that there is few snowboarders that are good. I would say that the majority, probably up to 70-80% of riders riding down the hills are twin-tippers or ordinary skiiers. This is sad since snowboarding is such a beautifull sport.

I truly encourage you to try snowboarding. You don't want to by a board, try it first, see if it's for you. You might think that it's a piece of ****, but if you really want to be good, throw away your skiis, thats what I did. You force your self to continue trying, which is a good "motivation".

My dear, do start snowboarding. The moment where I am the most happy (even happier than when I'm with my family or having cozy time with my girlfriend) is when I'm cruising down a hill and doing some occasional backflips, 360s and ordinary grabs. Railing around and driving faster than everyone else is such an amazing feeling. It's like surfing, you're one with nature. You're cruising down a hill and you're feeling like a god. Just learning a 360 or even 180 is so cool to perform and it looks AWESOME.

    --------------------------------------…

Just saying this. If you're good with skis you're going to face some complications. You will most likely not want to continue after the first day snowboarding. It's like beginning to exercise, you need to push your self off the couch and slap your self in the face and continue practicing hour after hour.

Get some good music that relaxes you and learn snowboarding with that. Another tip (which I've done with multiple girls (easy to get a girl/guy this way) ) is to dance with a partner. Stand in front of eachother, hold hands and ook at eachother. Of course the opposite guy needs to be good, but it really helps. Try to carve (turn) together in sync and maybe even spin around a little. It forms good relationships and it's very funny !:D

General tip when buying a snowboard if you ever come to this:

Buy a snowboard thats a little taller than your shoulder (it should be up to the top of your shoulder, but since you're still growing, most likely, you should have a board you can grow in) and then some extra big boots. Buy a freestyle board, not a freeride board. You will probably rail some day and a freeride board is not made for this, however a freestyle board can very well be used freeriding.

Buy a board with a cool texture, buy one with a cool drawing. Buy some cool looking clothes, googles and some fancy looking gear.

    Good luck !

Hope you will join uss snowboarders. We are lovely people, we are not the ignorant pricks that go skiing. 99% of snowboarders are very nice and helpfull, in contrast to the majority of skiiers being pricks!

    Have fun snowboarding!

    Love from a fellow snowboarder!

Also, snowboarding girls are really sexy!:D

    Have fun

(this is copied from my previous answer to another girl asking the same question, if something seems weird it might be written towards her. I'm sorry!:D)

    1. Take a lesson. It will make it a lot easier. You will probably spend a lot of the lesson on the bunny hill learning how to control yourself with your back foot unstrapped, which is important if you ever want to ride the lift.

    2. Don't expect to be shredding right away. Listen to the instructor, learn how to use both edges. Don't just slide down the middle of the hill facing forward!

    3. Have fun.
