Monzon was taller and probably a better boxer, but he did not always train hard, which explains his draws.

Hagler trained very hard and fought hard, so it is very possible for Halger to win this fight.

Prime to prime both in great condition I see Monzon winning decision.

Remember Carlos Monzon was middleweight champion of the world for seven years and retired with the title after 14 successful defenses. He had not lost a fight since Oct 1964, an unbeaten streak of 82 consecutive wins. He did avenge all three decision losses. His final record at the time of retirement was 89-3-9, 61 ko's. He defeated legendary fighters such as Emile Griffith, a prime Bennie Briscoe, World Welterweight champion Jose Mantequilla Napoles, Nino Benvenuti, and Rodrigo Valdes. He was a tall fighter who fired a lot of combinations during a fight, and he had a punishing right hand. He also had a tremendous pride and confidence about him. He had a good chin, down once in over 100 fights. Marvelous Marvin Hagler was a great champion in his era also, made 12 successful defenses of his title, before his title loss to a returning Sugar Ray Leonard in 1987. Monzon by a close decision.

As great as Monzon was, i like Hagler better. And if there's one thing conclusive here, both will hear the final bell. Monzon will meet the toughest man he ever had to face all his career in Hagler. He might beat Hagler but chances are high, the Marvelous one will return the favor. In a slug fest , MArvin gives Monzon his first KO loss. That's not how to fight MArvin. You beat him with speed. The Argentinian will soon find that out and starts to box and run in circles around Hagler. Marvelous chases Carlos and attempts to corner him. But Monzon was quick to his feet. The crowd begins to boo. Monzon doesnt like it. In the last round, Monzon elects to engage toe to toe giving everything he's got. He's simply not the type to get bullied. HAgler lands solid to the jaw and it drops the Shotgun. Monzon gets up and beats the ten count. The bout ends in a split decision. One judge had it for Monzon for ring generalship. One had it for HAgler due to KD and another one had it a draw... By golly what a fight!

How many top black american fighters did Monzon fight? I know he ducked Ronnie Harris. Marvin would have killed Monzon . Carlos was way to slow and he had bad boxing skills. Go to you tube and look at Monzon he was offal. I will never by it or give any credit to any fighter who wants to be concedered great if he does not fight any of the top fighters of his time sorry Rocky. Monzon was one tough SOB but Marvin has made a lot of tough men cry in the ring.

Both hit hard, but the edge goes to Hagler, Marvin was more mobile and the southpaw stance would give him a slight edge. At that level slight is enough.

Monzon was good, Hagler was better.

i could never split these two. it's either a draw or a razor close split decision either way.
