Why do girls can dress nicely but not guys?

So last years, I've purchased this amazing coat from my local Moores store,which is pretty classy. Everyone was a bit stunned from it, because, usually, guys at school only wear those not-so nice coat that has a value below 70$. But girls, on the other hand, always wear those super expensive coat, around 500$ worth; and worse, they usually have more than one of those expensive coat.

So why is it so wierd for a guy to buy expensive, good-looking stuff? At school, that is. I know it isn't wierd in public or at an office, for example.

Oh and poeples got over it quickly, "go out with style or don't go out at all".
