math word problem help please?
A supertanker leaves port traveling north at an average speed of 10 knots. Two hours later a cruise ship leaves the same port, heading south at an average speed of 18 knots. How many hours after the cruise ship sails will the two ships be 209 nautical miles apart? (1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour, and 1 nautical mile = 1.15 miles)
please make sure it is in an equation and shows work! thanks!

We can write three different equations from the given information
#1 = (supertanker distance) = (10 knots)(time)
#2 = (cruise ship distance) = (18 knots)(time - 2 hours)
#3 = (supertanker distance) + (cruise ship distance) = 209 nautical miles
Since #1 + #2 = 209, then
(10)(time) + (18)(time - 2) = 209
10time + 18time - 36 = 209
28time = 209 + 36
28time = 245
time = 245/28
time = 8.75 hours
