I don't have experience with the mirena but my friend has one before and I have heard all about it. She had hers in for 2 years, but had it removed last year due to weight gain and pressure! I have been seeing commercials about the mirena lately about how it does cause some bad side effects. I do know that it takes less time to become pregnant once out, so if you are wanting children soon after you go off birth control this one may be the one for you! My same friend had hers taken out last August and this August she was almost 3 months pregnant!

I had it and workes great for me. No side effects at all but I know that I have heard about weight game, pregnancy symtoms, acne. That type of stuff so if you are sensitive to horemones I dont recommend it. Mirena is actually a great method of birth control as I get pregnant very very easily and for 5 years I never got pregnant and got pregnant the month after it was taken out I was pregnant again so I know it works but the chance of pregnany and expulsion is greatest in the first year of having it. I will say that the key to it working correctly and having it not cause internal damage is the person that puts it in. If you know that your normal doctor does it and know hes done it multiple times, I would trust him/her rather then a planned parenthood clinic that just wants you in and out so they can get on to the next person. So to conclude, the decision to get the mirena IUD depends on your sensitivity to horemones and wether you have a dependable person to put the birth control in. Also, another birth control that has very low percentage of non intended births is implanon but I know nothong about that one. Good luck

I have heard not so good things about mirena! Really the pill is more effective. People are getting pregnant off of it and it can get stuck! I wouldn't risk it. Plus there are like a ton of lawsuit commercials about it on tv. ! Personally for me the pill is the way to go. Or I've used nuvaring before and that worked.im bad at remembering to take a pill everyday so that's why I switched to the ring. Hope this helps. Good luck

I just got mine put in today for the first time so I don't have much experience to share. But I can say it was not nearly as bad as I expected having it put in. It was definitely uncomfortable, but not as bad as some of the pap smears I've had and not nearly as bad as child birth. I chose it because I don't plan on having any more kids for at least 5 years and after a bad experience with the depo shot I wanted something that could be discontinued immediately if I experienced a bad side effect. I like not having to think about it and the fact that it is effective immediately (although my dr. recommended waiting 2-3 days to reduce the chance of infection).

My sister got Mirena. She said it did feel uncomfortable getting it put in but its way better than pushing out a baby type of pain! She loves it. She did have one scare one time where she thought it came out or away from whereever its supposed to be and she had to go make a doctor appointment to check but it was all fine!

I actually have a paraguard, and that i like it! No hormones and its solid for 10 years! yet I did have exceptionally nasty cramps for the 1st few days while they inserted it yet now i like it. one ingredient is that my bff have been given preg on a IUD so now i'm paranoid and the extra examine I do the extra i'm looking that some women do get preg with IUD's so i'm not sure if their stats are precise(a million in a hundred through the existence of the iud). If I had to do it lower back i could in all risk flow with the pill purely for the reality that in case you do get pregnant with an iud there is critical risk to the fetus and if I have been pregnant i could do each and every thing i could desire to to keep my infant. yet while your searching for a no maintenance, durable bc its a solid decision in simple terms verify your comfortable with the negative aspects because of fact there are some. desire this facilitates!
