WD MY BOOK ESSENTIAL 3T?

When electronics say they can stand flat or upright, is it really as good to stand them up right? it seems like the disc inside would have more resistance spinning upright then flat. But I don't know much about electronics, so is it better to just lay it flat? or does it matter at all?

Im not looking for opinions here, only factual and an explanation, thanks.
