How come the Bruce Willis character doesn't start to breakdown physically after escaping like the first character did after his escape?

You dont just physically break down if you escape. The other guy was getting disemboweled. They were cutting the young guys fingers off......so the older version of himself would also lose his fingers. Then they cut off the young guys legs and so on and so forth. It was a way to bring him in......thats why younger Joe was also on the run.....if they got a hold of him, they would have used the same tactic.
