In 1400,the north of India was mainly Muslim sultanates,with Hindu kingdoms further south.They were often at war with each other.
In 1526 a Timurid dynasty from Persia invaded India and established the Moghul empire,which eventually expanded to cover most of India.It went into decline after the death of the emperor Aurangzeb in 1707.

These wre all Hindu or Muslim states that were around in the 15th century,and eventually conquered by the Moghuls.
Also look at Sikhism (founded 1499) in the Punjab and its eventual militirization in response to Moghul persecution.
