If all these quantities are conserved then both members of the pair must change together.

Wouldn't this be much similar to the Einstein's thought experiment on a train carriage with two lightning strikes? Suppose the two complementary particles can emit light. A emits a light when B instantly stops emitting light. Basically it is analogous to the lightning strike thing. If you are travelling towards B and away from A, then you will see B shutting off before you see A turns on etc.
