When will this girl mature?
I liked this girl for over 2 years. She liked me as well. But her friends hate me (call me creep,etc.) and since a large part of her life revolves around them she's hesitant to be with me. She's a quiet girl who is somewhat insecure but incredibly intelligent. Her friends are idiots and slutty. We're both 19 in college and will go to med school in two years.
Other than "moving on" can you tell me why she is afraid that by dating me she will lose her friends and her life? She is overprotected by her family as well. When will this girl mature and realize friends mean nothing in long run compared to family and career? They're her high school friends too.
She is supposed to be a "socially awkward" girl but I've never really seen it. She always seemed to be her own beautiful person to me.

She is more concerned with being in a group where she is accepted. Her opinions are that of the group and even if she has opinions to the contrary, she does not keeps them to herself and does not deviate from them for fear of retribution and exclusion.
This is a sign of somebody with very few social skills and little self confidence. She's been protected by her family and now by her circle of friends. It's a tough thing to break through.
IF she does mature, it will be many miles down the road.
