How much is a vet visit and mange treatment?
About how much does it cost. We thought our dog was having an allergic reaction to the dog food ( changed to a cheaper brand) so we called the vet and said she broke out due to dog food. She told us what to do. Well that's what we get for assuming that's what it was. One of the neighbors looked at her today and said it is mange that his dog had it. So now we need to take our dog to the vet. I'm low on money so I have to borrow it from my mom. About how much should everything cost?

It varies from state to state city to city. But I would say just the vet visit would be between $30-50 just to be seen. Then he will probably need an ointment or antibiotic or both which will be between $15-50 so I would say the whole visit would cost between $60-100. Just get him seen and tell the vet your a little tight on money right now and they should be able to help you. You can also look up some home remedies to treat mange in the mean time. I heard adding lemon juice on the missing hair can help and there's a few others you can try. Good luck and hopefully you guys can figure it out :)

There are 2 kinds of mange, so a skin scraping will be needed to identify the one your dog has.
The treatment is not that expensive.
However, you need to let the vet check this out, you can't go by what your neighbor thinks.
Note: Castiel --- that old clunker about used oil has been around for so long that I can remember my grandfather talking about it. It DOES NOT work and it can poison the dog, in any case, it makes it worse not better.
You are irresponsible in the extreme repeating that old clunker when it can do harm, you should go play with your toys and not be on here with the adults - absolutely disgusting to give that kind of answer when you obviously know nothing at all about dogs.

If your dog has mange and is scratching and itching a lot...I know this will sound weird and stupid...but change the oil in any of your vehicles and then rub it all over the dog. It sounds odd, but it really works. One of my friends did this with his dog and it really helped her and I had to do it to my dog. Just rub the oil into the dog's fur and let it stay on there for a week or so. You might have to do it again the next week. Then, after about the third week, give the dog a bath to clean it. It will only cost however much oil you need to replace what was in your vehicle.

Mange is a skin condition caused by tiny mites that you can't see with the naked eye. There are three types of mites that attack dogs most often: demodectic (not contagious and may itch or not), sarcoptic (very contagious and extremely itchy) and cheyletiella (contagious and mildly itchy). The typical symptoms of mange as the condition progresses include hair loss and scaly or crusty skin.
Unfortunately, mange does not go away on its own and the lesions continue to spread so it needs to be treated as soon as possible. Vets can do a deep skin scraping to detect the presence and type of mite.
Regardless of the type of mange, in order to cure it you need to treat with a medication that kills the mites.
The mange medications most often prescribed by vets contain toxic chemicals that will harm your dog sooner or later. These are Ivermectin (also known as Ivomec) and Amitraz (also known as Mitaban). See the links that follow for toxicology information. It is always advisable to check the veterinary drug database for side effects of any medication prescribed by your vet http://www.drugs.com/vet/
Thankfully, there are a number of effective alternative treatments out there that are safe and natural at a reasonable cost that will kill the mites. You can easily do some research in the Internet to find out about these and compare your options.
I prefer the 'spray type' because it is inexpensive, very effective so it works fast, convenient to use (no mixing and no mess), and it is natural and harmless to pets and humans.
Hope this helps.

It depends on what type of mange....if it IS mange. The vet will do a skin scraping IF they feel it might be mange. There are plenty of other things it can be.

Depends on city, state, where they are located, and how what kind of mange as well.as how serious it is. Call around to vets in your area by using the seaech bar snd typing in your zip and adking for estimates.
