Why won't my WD external hard drive let me eject it?

A lot of times when I want to eject my WD mybook external hard drive from my pc, it says "could not eject, please close all running programs, try again later, bla, bla." I've closed all the programs that were accessing it so there's no reason it should be doing this. Should I just rip it out?

No, it could be that some program hasn't released that memory or the links to it yet. If you click on the safely remove hardware icon on the task bar and it still won't unmount, you may have to shut the computer down to safely remove it.

    dont just remove it

i dont know why windows does that, it does it to me too

with my camera, even if i havnt written anything to it.

its just poor programming and defats the object of calling it a removable drive.

i sympathise but cant help you.
