Anything and everything about being a SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST?
Not a school Counselor, but Psychologist.
I'm strongly considering pursuing a career as a School Psychologist. I am close to graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, but am not 100% sure of where to go from there.
If you could give me any information about being a school psychologist that you think that I would find helpful, I would greatly appreciate it.
If you ARE a school psychologist, if you wouldn't mind giving an example of a 'typical' day (though I know that people tend to say that there are no typical days in this profession), I would be truly thankful.
I guess that for the most part, I am just a little uncertain of exactly what a school psychologist does. I know the gist of it, but since I am not allowed to job shadow around here, I feel a little uneasy about attempting to attend graduate school to pursue a career that I don't really know what all is entailed for.
Thank You : )

I woudl first check out the National Association of School Psychologists website at: http://www.nasponline.org./ Apply for masters/specialist programs. Classes consist of psychology and education classes including intro special ed, special education assessment (educational assessment), applied behavior analysis or similar, curriculum design, intellectual assessment, research, statistics, counseling/psychotherapy, academic interventions
Typical day may include administering/scoring assessments, typing reports, consulting with teachers, staff meetings, ARC meetings, observationing a student or classroom. They may have to do some training for other school staff or will have to take training. You may be engaging in some therapy with a child. Faciliting groups on topics such as bullying, violence, anger management.
You will be working very closely to principals, special education teachers, school counselors, director of special education.
