DVD Internal - SATA or ?? for older computer?
I have a four-year-old computer. The internal DVD/CD burner is connected to the mobo by a ribbon cable.
I have to replace the burner.
I have one free sata plug on the motherboard, and I also have the ribbon cable that connects the current (broken) DVD/CD burner to the mother board.
1) Should I get a SATA oem internal burner or some other type of oem internal burner?
2) What is the other kind called? SCSI? IDE?
Thank you.
ps: motherboard: ABIT Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI
I have a choice of two SATA HDD and the ribbon-connected PATA, or only ONE SATA HDD, and one SATA dvd burner. I'd rather have two sata hdds

Older DVD drives were IDE/PATA. You may still be able to find some.
If you have a SATA port, you can also just use a SATA DVD drive. You just need to get the right two cables for the SATA drive (data and power)

Its called IDE.
If you have the SATA power connector and the SATA data connector then just get the SATA drive.
I would think that now the IDE drives would be more difficult to source.

as long by way of fact the mummy board has a minimum of one ide (ribbon cable form) plug interior the cd rigidity would desire to nevertheless paintings. I put in a sada interior the single I in simple terms equipped and it is plenty quicker that i will in no way return to an ide interface. in the adventure that your motherboard would not have an ide plug in you will get one that suits into the pci slot like your vidio card yet once you will desire to purchase one in each and every of them then i'd put in a solid dvd/rw rigidity for related to the comparable value which could burn dvd's.
