Once upon a time the clips we saw before we saw the movie were called previews, now they're called trailers,?
, does any one know why? What do they trail?

Actually, they USED to be called "trailers" because they were shown AFTER each week's episode of the serial shows that appeared in early cinemas on Saturday each week...then when films began to be more than 20 or 30 minutes long, cinemas would begin showing snippets from upcoming offerings, and since they were no longer "enticements" regarding next week's episode, they started showing them BEFORE the movie instead of after, because people would just leave otherwise...
And now you know...the rest of the story!
