When your phone rings and....?

ok, so when your phone rings at home and you answer by saying "Hello", do you find it really annoying that the people on the other end keeps saying "hello" back ?

i have answered so many times , i would say "hello", they say "hello", i mean when you KNOW they called your place for a certain person, like my kids friends or my mother inlaw, or whatever, they keep saying "hello" , if they don't ask for someone like my kid or wife or even myself - they say "hello" again , i would say "if you can't say anything other then "hello" , i'm hanging up (and i do).

some people may think it's rude of me, but i know how to speak!

Anyone out there feel this way? how do you handle people like that? anyone have a theory why people are like that?

A caller answering my greeting of hello on answer, repeating the greeting is O.K. with me...as long as they cut to the chase after the 'hello'...

sounds kinda like a prick move on your part... so they are not supposed to say hello?

why not just answer the phone "how can i help you?" that should get them talking...

i just cut the "hello"s short with saying "who's speaking"...it does get annoying though....especially if i recognize the # and its somebody that does it alot
