How can I serve someone who will not answer the door?
I am trying to sue my old company. The owner works out of his house. He promised (in writing) to pay a $15,000 medical bill and of course is now not paying it. I had to hire a lawyer because the amount is too high for small claims court but my attorney seems to be a bit of a flake. He's on his own not in a practice and I have had a few issues with him. Anyway he is telling me they tried to serve him 4 times and he will not answer his door and is not accepting certified mail. Can someone really just avoid a lawsuit like that?

It can be posted in the legal notices in the newspaper 3 times and he is considered to have been served. At least, that is how it used to be done. I would guess it still is.

You hire a process server who will stake out the house and serve him when he sees him come outside.

That's a difficult situation....I think I'd be doing u a diservice by answering after reading! U need to consult someone who has experience with these complications.
