Does morphine help a person die?

My mother was given morphine in palliative and it was increased until she stayed asleep until her death. I have terrible feelings of guilt that this may have contributed to her death. She had gone in because the condition she had, had progressed to the point that swallowing was becoming difficult.

I'm not an expert but I believe morphine is used when a person is experiencing awful pain and the morphine helps to make the person feel good. A problem that most people get from it is that they get addicted. When they no longer need morphine because the pain is gone, they want some because they felt really good but I think that it's not that much of a problem. I mean, they still use them in the hospitals. By the way, I'm sorry for your lost. Hope this helps.

I'm sure they were easing her pain and not helping her die. You wouldn't have wanted her to suffer, right?
