Christians...I have another question (part 3)?

Let us see if I can stop embarrassing myself with misuse of words...

No one answered what happened to the prophets in the Old Testament, are they in hell right now? And if the Catholics created hell to scare people into their religion, how much of the Bible was modified to fit the desires of the head of the church? That is my issue with anything that was written by a human. Imperfect and adapted text.

I agree with a couple of the previous comments, a loving God would not damn someone who tries to "walk the walk" but doesn't believe a human is God. Note I didn't use Christ-like again.

Please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

Update:

And God has commandments for Jews separate from Christians? I believe that was told to me in Part 2 comment.

Update 2:

So I am now being told the prophets in the Old Testament were saved because they new of the coming of the Savior. But I was being told Jews are damned because they don't believe in Jesus (yet, they are still waiting for the original messiah)?

No. Prophets true to God are in Heaven. They are in Heaven because of their faith in God. Even Abraham knew about Christ.

ADDITION: Zechariah:12:10 Israel will finally recognize the Savior and mourn His killing.

Okay so there are a couple questions in there hopefully I get them all...Firstly after I heard that after Jesus died he went down to hell and got people like Moses and brought them up to heaven. But as far as I know that's a Catholic doctrine, I don't remember it actually being in the bible I could be wrong.

Not all Christians believe in eternal hell, some believe in a temporary hell other believe we all just die (sleep death) and then are brought back to life if we are saved. I can't remember any specific verses to support this off the top of my head but now that you know what to look for you can probably just google that. It should be noted that most Jews also believe in sleep death which would add validity to the theory I would think.

God doesn't necessarily have different rules for Jews and Christians. What it is is that the Jews have a covenant of law (for instance read the five books of Moses full of laws I believe they have about 600). When Jesus came he made a new covenant one of faith and so Christians would no longer follow the old testament. Of course Jews would still follow it because they don't believe in Jesus as the Messiah. So Christians only need to believe in Jesus to be saved, this doesn't mean they act like jerks though because one that truly loved and followed Jesus they would also love all mankind (one verse says 'to know God is to know love and if you don't know love you do not know God)

To the best of my knowledge the only cases of fire and brimstone hell used in a literal sense and not in a figuratively sense is referring to Satan's punishment

Source(s): sorry i couldn't quote direct verse but I'm sure you could find it on an online bible

The prophets, and anyone in the old testament who had faith in God was saved. They didn't have the Messiah (Jesus), but they looked forward to the coming Messiah and many many OT passages talk about the coming Messiah (Isaiah 53, Psalm 22, Isaiah 9, etc.). The apostle Paul addresses this when he says that Abraham was saved by faith. Abraham existed long before Jesus was ever born.

    Romans 4:2-4

For if Abraham was justified [b]by works, he has something to boast about, but not [c]before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.”

How could the prophets of the Old Testament be in hell if the Holy Spirit was speaking through them? They were doing the work and will of God therefore they would not be in Hell (damnation).

  • where's the question? as far as bible mods there are some translations where things are translated for the convenience of a doctrine. that's mis translation not necessarily mods. hell seems to be where Satan and the other fallen angels went and in atleast one story Jesus told a rich man was who asked Moses to send Lazarus to aide him. doctrine will always be debated however these books that make of the anthology of the bible are fairly accurate to the original sources. so if they're wrong they've been that way from day one.

Actually God made us be born with no knowledge of him. Therefore God made atheism.
