I hate to say it but you're not going to get a logical response. It'll be denial or no response at all. As long as they get what they want from their messiah it's "Hear no evil, see no evil".

As you can see the anti ID people are siteing the 24th amendment. The goverment is not now has never and will never make a legal american citizen pay to vote. All the states that now require some form of ID must still let you vote,the vote will be placed aside if the voter cannot produce one of the many forms of ID. Then the voter will a certain amount of time to get one. The states bend over backwoods and go out of there way to get people IDs and many offer free IDs and will even waiver birth cert fees to obtain a voter ID. So the 24th is not an issue like the libs say.also the libs use voter suppretion and infact all the states that require IDs are up in regerstration especially amoung minoratys. It comes down to the liberals not wanting to play fair because cheating helps them and that is a fact.

There was a story of an elderly woman, who has been able to vote for 56 yrs. She can't vote in this election because of the voter ID law, she cannot access the records showing her birth name, her birth certificate had been destroyed and her social security lists her married name only. She had various IDs, but not the voter ID. And contrary to what some of the posters say, there is usually about a $10 fee for that ID.

The thing is, those people who will have a harder time getting the voter ID for this election are primarily Democrats. This law, while the basis is good, is the Republicans way to keep Democrats from voting. Which sounds more like voter fraud to me during this election year.

And since the voter fraud is a construct of the Conservatives, the ID we have now is sufficient for free elections which we have now.

Besides, if illegals want to vote, what is to stop them? They already can forge driver's licenses and social security cards, what to keep them from forging voter IDs as well? Those driver's licenses and SS cards they have now are supposed to be forge proof.

If you are old and cannot drive then you have to rely on someone else to help you get this ID. Maybe you are blind and you have to have someone help you get this new ID. Maybe you are poor and you cannot afford a car. All of these things make it harder for people to vote and the fact is all these thingas are totaly uneccessaery because the facts are that voter fraude is non-exsistent. There have been come questions about conservative Republican Primary elections where republicans have cheated but, no real problem in the general eletions. So, as usual you right wingers do not know the facts but spew out whatever it is that you heard.

Can you find a link a single conviction for 'imposter' voter fraud? (The kind ID laws are intended to prevent.) A single instance anywhere in the USA in the past 20 years. ONE. Only one. A news story? A court record? How about just an indictment. Not even a conviction. Can you?

Nope. Because there isn't one.

Now, let's get to the Constitutionality of the issue. (You DO believe in the Constitution don't you?)

Here's the 24th amendment.

The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.

What part of the amendment is ambiguous? You CAN NOT charge people to vote. Period. A poll tax is still a poll tax even when it's collected at the DMV.

I am not a liberal, a Democrat, and I didn't vote for Obama. I just believe in interpreting the US Constitution objectively, and nothing matters more to me than that.

The 24th Amendment clearly prohibits poll taxes. Government cannot charge anyone one cent as a prerequisite for allowing them to vote. And IF government says that the only ID that they'll accept as proof of the qualification for voting is an ID that comes from government itself, and if government charges a fee for getting an ID, then obviously that government has figure out an indirect way to "tax" a person instead of a direct way to "tax." It is unconstitutional.

Make sure that IDs are FREE, or else government can't require voters to provide ID.

Federal law prohibits requiring any fee whatsoever for voting. No poll taxes. None at all, got it? That includes any requirement for voting that costs any money. None at all, got it?

State issued ID costs money. Even if it's a ten buck fee for a student ID at a state university, there is a fee. When I was still a commercial driver, renewing my driver's license cost me almost $300 including a mandatory physical. There isn't a single state that offers a free photo ID.

YOU CANNOT CHARGE A FEE FOR VOTING!

So if a state wants to demand ID for voting they need to make such ID available without any charge at all. Charge somebody 40 cents for the stamp to mail the ID, and the law is broken.

There, got it? We object to the laws being proposed because they violate the law, and unfairly target poor and minority communities who are statistically less likely to have the ID required by these bigoted laws.

Silly conservatives, they want the voter id laws because they want to prevent people from voting against them, such as dems and independents.

Some are against it.

Some want fraud.

As a Kennedy Democrat, I am against ONE thing:

DO NOT DISENFRANCHISE VOTERS.

If they can legally vote, and this law makes it too hard for them to vote, it is a bad law.

Can you show that it will not prevent the poor and elderly from voting?

If so, I will stand with you for these laws.

If you can't, then until you do, I oppose these laws.

I turn the question back to you: "DO you intend to disenfranchise voters by passing a careless law?"

Do the work, then pass the law.

We live in a society that protects the innocent before condemning the guilty.

Wow, some of your liberal answers are way out there. Anyone who doesn't have some sort of ID in this country today has to be living under a rock. Seniors have it in order to get benefits, the 'poor' have it or they wouldn't get their free handouts. They have offered ID's to anyone who doesn't have one so that's no excuse. And anyone who doesn't think fraud happens should look up the fraud in this last election in WI. THERE WERE CONVICTIONS and they said it changed the numbers that Obama won by in this state quite a bit, so we do need this law cause we don't need another 4 yrs of Obama.
