Do people not understand how much money is wasted on Astrology?

I recently answered a question on Astrology that was obviously put into the Astronomy section. (ugh Yahoo) the asker responded with this,

"Ok I think u and the rest of the people that answered, take the horescope too serious. ......Cheezz .....&#%*ezz be trippin."

So, I want to know what people's take is on this. If you do know the actually amount of money wasted in the US on astrology each year please post it. (I think it's around $400 mill. Last I heard)

Think what would happen if we diverted that money to say feeding poor children or sheltering homeless. Plus we could save space in newspapers. Lol.

Update:

@raymond "Do you know how much time is spent by people who WANT to believe that money spent on one thing could be DIVERTED to some other cause?"

You missed my point. I wasn't saying I WANT this, I was merely pointing out the cost of blatant ignorance. This is nowhere in comparison with football or war. War is a necessary thing sometimes. You cannot compare monies spent on war to that spent on astrology. You make a very bad analogy there. Football too is different, it DOE NOT make people believe opposite to what it truth. It is an entertainment outlet. Football doesn't tell me how I should live my life.

DUHHHHH!!!!!! Obviously they do NOT understand, because of IGNORANCE and scientific illiteracy. That SHOULD be quite obvious. THAT's why there really should be new national effort for a NEW National Defense Educational Act similar to the one that JFK signed. OMG! It was EISENHOWER who signed that, a distant relative of mine!!!, NOT JFK!!!! Well, I was only five years old in 1958. LOL!!!

BLAME THE REPUBLICANS. THEY are cutting education funding DRASTICALLY. YOU voted them into office, so WE have to vote them OUT of office, or recall them, which IS EXACTLY what is happening in MANY states.

    It never is.

Until recently (until the unnecessary wars of the previous decades) we had plenty of money and we could have easily gotten rid of poverty and homelessness. But we (as a society) decided not to.

Money wasted on astrology is no different than money wasted on religion (it is the same type of expense, for the same purpose). It is very similar to money wasted on entertainment (why waste millions on movies that tell us fake stories, when the story of real people can be just as interesting -- go out and talk to people).

We live in a society that thinks it shameful that a sport player's salary is limited to only a few dozen million dollars per year (damn salary caps!) while we find it awful that our teachers (at 35,000 a year) have the gall to ask for more money. It is not as if teachers were as important as a baseball player, right?

And let's not forget the poor sport team owners who can't get a decent tax break from the cities where they set up their arenas. These people are obviously far more important than foodless children or homeless families.

    None of it is wasted.

The people that pay for it are happy, sad but happy.

The people that make the money spend it on themselves and think they're spending it well.

It's just that We can't see the point.

or on ridiculous hairstyles, or on stupid hockey games, or on giving away money to foreign countries who will blow it on armaments and more war, or on going to Mars when we have so many extreme social problems here., or on idiotiic programs to teach rubbish to kids in school, such as abortion as a viable option..., the list is endless, indicating the depths of insanity to which this society has sunk.
