Cant find airplay device?

I have an airplay enabled speaker and a Macbook pro (2010) with itunes. I know that if you comp finds an airplay device it should automatically show the icon at the bottom. But Lots of times ill turn on the speakers and open up my mac and it wont find any device. What do I do now. It works half the time but i dont know why :/

    Go to search in the top right hand corner of the screen and search for airport utility and then it should show up there and then you have to set it up
