i want to do ballet but im 13. what should i do?

i do ballroom dancing and next year im going to start competitions. But my family members pressure me so hard i feel like its just not worth it anymore. So i thought about dancing, a sort of dance only one person. not partnership.. or whatever. Soo thats when i had the thought about starting ballet. i talked about it to my mom and she said i can only do one of them. and that she wont drive me up 1hour and a half drive. So i found this dance school who offers ballet. But im really confused about what i want to do. Ive been doing ballroom since i was 6. and im now 13... is it too late to start ballet. is it a good to throw away my hard work, to start new. plus ballet would help me with flexibility, strength and posture.. anyways i need your opinion! Help!! please. :)

If you're still in middle school, you can audition for dance in high school (if your high school offers dance as an elective). I take Beginning Dance, which requires no previous experience. We do ballet, jazz, and now we're into modern.

Ballet is difficult. It requires you to hold up your arms for long periods of time (which is harder than it sounds!), keep your legs straight, toes pointed, and also plie every time you land. However it would be a great idea to expand your view point and experience with dance by trying ballet. It is the basis of every form of dance except hip hop. I would recommend taking at least a few ballet classes before thinking of a ballet school - you will see how much you really enjoy the form of dance.

    Good luck!

I myself do ballet, jazz, modern and hip hop and i have been dancing since i was 2. I live and breathe dance. i am 12 years old and in my class there are also 13 year olds.

in my opinion I think you should try what you want but out of all my dances and most dancers would agree ballet is already the hardest dance to do and it would be even harder to jump in and try to learn all these french dance terms.

But like at my studio its a competitve and hard dance studio so then one that is near you might be easier and if not most studios have placeing eaither play levels or skills so you might go for an easier skill level...

But then again i think if your good at what you do and at the end of the day if you really enjoy it i say stick to it but if no follow what you think.
