2nd Tactical Air Force (2 TAF) consisted of four air groups:
2 Air Group (Bostons, Mitchels, and Mosquito Bombers)
83 Air Group (Mustangs, Spitfires, and Typhoons)
84 Air Group (Mustangs, Spitfires, and Typhoons)
85 Air Group
2nd Air Group operated from England in support of the D-Day invasion. Once the invasion forces were well established in Normandy air bases were built and 2nd and 83rd groups were transferred to france, and carried out close support missions for the 21st Army Group particularly in the British 2nd Army operations against the German forces at Caen, and interdiction of German supply and troop movements in Northern France. After this they were joined by the 84th Group and primarily gave support to the 1st Canadian Army operations in the liberation of the Channel ports, particularly Le Harve, Dieppe, Boulogne, and Calais. With the addition of the 85 Group they gave support to the operations into Belgium and Holland, notably the Market-Garden operations to try to secure the Arnhem bridge. Therafter they supported the allied advance into Holland and Germany up to the end of the war in Europe.
Edit: Operations in Germany would have included Bremen, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, and Kiel..
