Athletes foot or calluses?
My husband has thick calluses on almost the entire soles of his feet - they've been like that for years. I read that there is a type of athlete's foot called 'moccasin', and I was wondering if it could be from that since some of his toe nails also look like they've got a fungal infection - or if it is just calluses from pressure - because he's got pretty flat feet. Does anyone know if the moccasin tinea can cause calluses but not be itchy? (he won't go to the doctor) thanks
Thanks for your answer RNAadvisor, that's interesting - my husband has hayfever as well - do you know if a change in diet could help?

Hi Hellocopter,
The thickened skin on your husband's feet could be athlete's foot. You're right. Athlete's foot is often associated with toenail fungus.
Moccasin type athlete's foot causes calloused tough skin on the soles of the feet. With this type, the feet usually do not itch. Moccassin type athlete's foot is also associated with allergic conditions like asthma, eczema, and hayfever.
Unfortunately, topical medications are not very effective against this type of athlete's foot. The cream is not able to penetrate the toughened skin to kill the fungi. I know that you said that your husband does not want to go the doctor. However, prescription oral medications work the best for this.
Hope this helps.
