How to build a Newtonian Telescope?
I want to know from the astronomers here who build telescopes.
How do you go about building your own Newtonian telescope? I want to know how you get your mirrors, do you buy or make yourself?

i've got considered the polar cap of Mars in an 8 inch SCT at opposition. besides the undeniable fact that, the present oppositions (next one in Jan 2010, i think of) at the instant are not as close because of the fact those in August or October. The August ones (as in 2003) are closest. on the final opposition, i did not see it in my 10 inch Newtonian. It drove me nuts. yet right here is what took place. I gained a laser collimator in a gamble. and that i in the present day collimated my scope. It did hassle me how far flung it became, and it were protecting collimation rather properly. and each time i went out, i collimated, and returned stumbled on how undesirable the alignment had held. It became 3 or 4 months earlier i've got been given suspicious. The collimator became out of align. So i efficiently overlooked the opposition of Mars by potential of screwing up the alignment of my scope. i've got for the reason that better the alignment of the collimator by potential of rotating it in a V block, and goofing with the set screws. And the scope performs as new and holds alignment returned. My wager is that a properly aligned 6" will prepare you the caps. once you're grinding your guy or woman mirror, they say the 1st subject you ought to do to grind a 10" mirror is to grind a 6" mirror. My suggestion: %. a scope focal length around 1200 mm, so it fits on your motor vehicle. in case you may not pass it, it remains the place you build it. Then a low value 10 mm eyepiece provides you with 120x, which ought to be high-quality.

You can grind and surface your own mirror, but it's an art in itself,
and takes a long time to learn, and a long time to get one even close to right.
Buy one.
