How good will the Ottawa Senators be in the future?
My cousin wants to know this for some reason
It's fully understandable

They'll be better in the future because they are terrible now. Likely finish 30th in the league in 2011-12.

Kind of poorly managed IMO recently. They were a really lazy team back when they were good in 2007ish. Then they lost Heatley and Volchenkov. They need to start rebuilding when Alfredsson retires. I think they should trade Spezza, Michalek, Anderson and Phillips honestly, who are really all of their players with trade value that aren't really young. Then they should build through the draft, and try to build around Karlsson, Zibanejed, and possibly Filatov. After about five years of pretty much getting young players with potential they should scavange free agency and try to get a star and two top-6/top-4 players, a reliable goalie, and some grinders, then they can become a playoff team. Then a couple of years later, when their young players are hitting their prime, they should be a contender. Doubt their trading Spezza though, so small chance of this happening

terrible and not just cause im a leaf fan but honestly terrible their captain is done had surgery earlier this summer might not be able to play like he once could spezza has been awful since heatley left their best defensive defenceman is probably chris phillips and he sucks their top pick from this year mika zibenjad might be able to play this year but is still 2-3 years away from seeing what type of player he is and they don't really have any other good prospects
also their management has been awful since they went to the finals they haven't had a good coach and their GM doesn't really seem to draft right

I bet in 5 years are so, they'll be a good team. Really though I'm only basing that off the fact that their farm team, the Binghamton Senators, just won the Calder Cup.

they drafted well by getting Zbynejad and Puempel, but Alfredsson is done and Spezza is slowing down aswell. 5-8 years to make the playoffs.
