archers that shoot everyday, here is a question?

how many of you archers that shoot everyday find that your first shot of your set is usually the best shot of the set? i shoot a 10 arrow set at 40 yards, the first is allways a bull then i start to spread out, usually i can encompass all my arrows with 2 hands.and i will have at least 5 in the 2 inch bull.

That's good shooting burnie. And the best thing is that your first arrow is usually the best. This works well in hunting situations.

I shoot too much at times. And as I shoot, I find the more I shoot the wider my groups get during the shooting session. I think that is caused by muscle fatigue or just getting a little sloppy with my shooting form.

By shooting a ten shot group, your form may be suffering a little bit also as your muscles tire. You could, subconsciously be dropping your bow arm a little too soon as you tire.

I shoot 5 shot groups.I do well until my shot count starts getting high. But I love to shoot, so I continue. And my shooting keeps getting worse as I tire, but I shoot at times several hundred arrows a session.

I have a friend I shoot with at times, that will only shoot a 3 shot group. His thinking is that he can only shoot 3 times without things starting to go downhill. He could be right for most of the time his arrows will be touching each other at 30 yards. And when we get into one of our "champion of the world" two man tournaments, he can always beat me until he starts to tire.

So maybe you are just getting a little tired. That's about all I can come up with.

I could see how that would happen. Shooting 10 arrow sets would tire anyone out. I usually only shoot a 3 arrow set. The main reason for that is I shoot out to 80 yards and don't want to be tired at all for those long shots. The reason I shoot out to 80 is because it makes those 50 yard shots easy.

Breath control is key here..that, bone alignment and patients....Your not in a hurry..take your time do it by the numbers and you can close that up some. Your 1st arrow results is a usual thing. And a good one at that. When I was an archer we use to shoot for an hour or so at a time. Using 6 arrow sets so what ever that works out to be. I backed it off to 3 x's a week once I got tuned up for archery season. Not wanting to over train. Now I don't shoot at all due to a work related injury..but my heart is still in the game. Good luck.

Towards the end of shooting my shots spread more. I do more than ten shots at a time outside of hunting season and just lower the pull on my bow.
