Help me out with the tittle of a 70's car flick?

It's about a young guy travelling around and racing in a '40-ish Willys or Anglia that he's set up for drag racing. It's covered in grey primer and has no starter due to the highly modified motor, so he push starts it all the time. There's a love interest, and he gets into some trouble, that's all I can remember about it.

(I know, I know! But there's nobody in the movie section old enough to have possibly seen this movie!)

Thank you !!!

Update:

@ Jay, I love TLB (baddest car of all time!) but that's not it, thanks!

You're thinking of "Hot Rod" a made for TV movie, staring a blown & injected hemi powered '41 Willys dressed in grey. Robert Culp played second fiddle.

Closest thing I can think of is Two Lane Blacktop (1971) but the only thing that matches up is the primered car. Haven't seen the movie in forever so I don't remember much about it. The car in Two Lane Blacktop is a '55 Chevy so it might not be the movie you're looking for.

It was the movie "Hot Rod". He builds a shiny black Mopar then proceeds to roll it right away then finds an old willy's to put the Hemi into!

Source(s): I'm a car movie nut! I own one of the TLB dvd's in the limited edition tin's w/key chain!

The Wraith? No, that's from the 80's. Can't think of any other street racing movies right now. Sorry.
