Is Bettman worth 7.2 million a year?!?

I almost died when I saw how much this idiot makes. Not only should he be fired, but he should be deported and banned from ever entering North Am soil ever again!

thoughts?

That is ridiculous how much he makes. He doesn't even make the right decisions. Hockey teams in Phoenix, Atlanta and Miami and no suspension for Chara for almost killing Max Pacioretty.

  • Deported to where? He's an American citizen!

His bosses (the owners) are the ones who hired him and they can fire him. They think enough of him to give him a contract extention.

If they didn't like his work they would have fired him since they're the only ones who have that ability (they're his bosses).

Then again, it was on his watch that the NHL grew from a $400mm business into a $3bn business. Not too shabby.

I'm not exactly why people hate him- the lockout was something the owners wanted (and if Bettman hadn't pulled the trigger the owners would have fired him and hired someone to do their bidding as they wanted). He's their mouthpiece.

While he certainly deserves much of the criticism thrown his way, the fact is that the NHL is more popular and successful than its ever been since he came aboard. Perhaps 7+ million a year is a bit high, that's not a lot of money in the sports world. Bud Selig makes 18 million a year. If that's ok, then Bettman does deserve 7.

His job is to make the league money. He does that, big time. So, yeah, he probably does deserve the money. A lot of fans don't like him because he advertises and makes decisions to go after the new fans/increasing the fan base, sometimes at the cost of the traditionalists, but in the end, he's doing exactly what he was hired to do: sell the brand.

I feel no one should make 7.2 million a year, but that's my opinion. He's not doing a bad job per say, so I guess they can pay him what they see fit. Some of his decisions can be questioned though.

the nhl continues to prosper under bettman. he's doing his job quite fine and the league is making money. moving to small market canada is not neccessarly gonna make the league more money, even ottawa loses money. attendence a profitable franchise does not make. bettman realizes that places like phx and atl are huge media markets and have many big organizations for sponsorship possibilities.

I don't know. Did he have a better year than Wade Redden?

But since his employers only care about what he does for them I guess they think that he is worth it.

He's only there because the owners keep him so it's not saying a lot for the owners also.

  • thats alot. too much for him. the deportation is a bit much too, i think firing him and banning him from working in the nhl ever again is good though
