From what date does an employer consider for background checks?
If a company has a policy of a 7 year background check, then is it from the time of conviction or time done with probation?

The 7 year period starts with the current date, and then goes back 7 years to include all data. If the conviction and probation fall within that period then it will include both. Even it the conviction was outside of the seven year period, and it comes up through the probation finding, the employer can choose to go back and inquire about it.
Ultimately, employers are not bound by any restrictions once they find something.

It all depends on the company. Usually they want to know whether a person has had a brush with the law or has a criminal record. Depending on the nature of the job, the questions will get more precise and more intrusive. So that its hard to be evasive. Sometimes a person might think that answering with a false statement will get them the job. This may be true. however, the questions on the application and the application itself are constructed in such a way that the Boss can fire you if you lie, leave information out, or fail to disclose important details. the boss always has the upper hand. Best advice is to be honest. However, if you lie and get the job, you'll have a job until you get caught when the criminal back ground check catches up with you. Good luck.

Your probation might come up on a background check or it might not. It really depends on the background check service. In either case, be truthful on your application and list whatever you've been convicted of if they ask for it. If it's some stupid, youthful indescretion that happened a decade ago, there's a good chance they'll be fine with it. Either way, you don't want to be constantly wondering if they're going to find out and fire you.

If the policy is 7 years, then it's 7 years. ANYTHING on your record within that time will show.
