you should probably just watch the whole thing. The movie is very true to the real events.

He had to rappel down the rock with one arm. He then drank some water from a muddy puddle and began to walk. He eventually came upon some European tourists. He might have still died in the desert had he not found them, from exposure to the elements and blood loss.
