NYC Subway Metrocard left over money?
I have a bunch of cards with less than a full fare on them. While its only about 20 cents to a buck or so on each, I hate to just throw money away. Is there an easy way to transfer or somehow use the remaining value of these cards? My only solution at the moment is use go to a booth and to put exactly enough additional money on each card to value one ride and use it.
Thanks for the first answer but they do expire and I only use them every few months...often I forget the one at home and get another...thus the multiples. But will check on merging. Appreciate any further recommendations.

If you have money left in one card and you want to transfer the amount of money on it to a new card before it expires, simply go down to the station booth in the subway and have the station agent transfer amount of money from one card to the other. The process take just a few minutes and its free.
I hope this infomration is very helpful.
Good luck

I mistakenly gave a metro card with money on and got a unlimited. Just realized it and want to know
if the booth person can see that I had pre-existing money on the card and transfer it to another card. Or
have I just lost the original amount before buying the unlimited? Thanks!

You do realize you can just use one metro card and keep refilling it there's no need to buy a bunch on them and I'm not sure but I do think if you take them to the booth you can merge them

You can go over to a token booth clerk and ask him to combine the MetroCards for you. You can only combine 4 MetroCards at a time, though.

No, but you can have them all put on one card, or add money to even it out.
