Planning to build an addition onto my parent's home. What do you guys think?

I am an employed college graduate with a thriving career. I am thinking of building an addition onto my parents house. They are fine with the idea. I had saved the down payment for a house of my own until I realized that I really don't like the idea of living alone. Please give me some feedback on what you guys think of this idea.

i think you are smart to do it. Try and build it so that it adds value to your folks house. If you could build it so it at least includes a "master bedroom suite (includes a sitting area) and a master bath, that would meet your needs, and add value. If you were able to build it like a mother--in-law suite(bedroom, bath, sitting area and kitchenette, with separate entrance) that would be an option. Talk to some local realtors and contractors to get ideas.

Before you do anything, check the building codes for your area. You may not be allowed to add on.

Sorry but at some point you have to leave the nest. Rent something close by and give it a try. You don't want to be 55 and still living at home.

What would happen when your parents pass-away..You'll buy- out your brothers and sisters share(can you afford it), or you'd hope they'd pay you what value improvements you put into the house(you think they can afford).

You're the only child,..go for it
