In the book "The Outsiders" is Cherry Valance's name coincidental?
Or is there a reason that she shares her name with a gunfighter from the movie "Red River"?
All the other character's names seem to be pulled out of thin air, so this one name sticks out to me with an "outside" connection.

Hello, I think that it is just coincidental that she shares this name seeing as though she has no, and neither does the book, have any connection with that movie. the only way that it would have a connection is if at the very start of the book it said that the movie was "Red River" that Ponyboy had just watched, but since the book did not say that, I would have to say it has no connection! :D
