Can people with diabetes use pure maple syrup instead?

When I make squash I generally sprinkle it with some brown sugar and do it in the microwave. If I use a little pure maple syrup instead would that be better for someone who is diabetic?

    You would be better of using the brown sugar if it is a little amount. Diabetics can eat sugar contrary to popular belief. Maple syrup contains just as much sugar as the brown sugar you normally use.

    Sugar is sugar, whether derived from a natural or refined source, and will have more or less the same effect on blood glucose levels. If the diabetic can eat a little brown sugar without spiking too high, then he or she could probably eat the same amount of sugar in maple syrup form, too. Even though the types of carbs matter in terms of blood sugar, sugar, regardless of its form, has a fairly predictable effect on blood sugar. Be mindful of carbohydrate count and maple syrup shouldn't be much different.

    Hello my friend,

    Absolutely not.

    All carbohydrates turn in to sugar in your body. Sugar makes your blood sugar go up and a lot harder to control.

    I have been a diabetic since 1996 and back then they were recommending honey and fructose. Bad idea.

    I now use liquid or powdered pure stevia as a sweetener. I also use limited amounts of liquid Splenda. I stay away from the powder fake sweeteners because they contain maltodextrin.

    A really excellent book on diabetes is Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. This doctor has been a diabetic for over 60 years and he is in great health. He know his stuff.

    As others have said, sugar is sugar. Just watch the quantity and let the person know how much you used.

    Don't assume a diabetic wants you to use a sugar substitute. A lot of people get sick from those, so limit the amount they ingest.

    Maple syrup contains a lot of sugar, it's just natural.

    As long as you tell the diabetic beforehand that there is some added sugar, they should be able to deal with it.

    All sweets are not good for a diabetic,but add equal instead.By the way diabetics can be cured all u got to do is have or add a teaspoon of cinnamon powder with all meals u have i.g,breakfast,lunch and dinner,if u don't like it buy some empty capsule and fill it with cinnamon powder and have 2 capsule after meals,i had sugar level of 550 but today i enjoy ice cream again,even my dead foot is ok.but still i drink coffee with equal.

    Sugar is sugar. But a little syrupgoes farther so yes but carefully
