Experiment. Try different brands/types of pellets.....and use the ones that's best for your airgun. Usually the dome ones are the best for longer distances (Up to 40 to 50 yards). Wadcutters are still good up to 12 to 15 yards. The Predator Polymags work well in some airguns also.

For birds....a body shot will do.....unless they're bigger like Crows and Magpies etc....than a head-shot for a quick kill. For furry creatures....should always go for a head-shot.....and limit your distance to under 30 yards.

You should always use the pellets your rifle prefers(accuracy) but generally speaking domed pellets are the most effective on small game while wadcutters are on pest birds.

For the Gamo Big Cat you ask about earlier. The Crosman Premier Domed Light(7.9gr) pellet is one that generally works well in this rifle.

    Hunting for raccoon and fox?

IMO that requires a relatively powerful .22 or .25 caliber PCP that delivers a minimum of 40ft-lbs of muzzle energy. And then, only in the hands of an expert.

The JSB Predator(8.2gr) does work well with some rifles, but not with most.

the best pellets in my opinion is the pointed, good for small game because it penetrates deeply.if you are hunting birds, frogs,or turtles i would use the flat nosed pellet.the smack caused by it immobilizes your qaury due to concussion and penetration!

You would be better off clubbing the animals ( with the pellet

gun) you wish to shoot with a pellet gun than shooting them as more often than not you will only wound them leaving them to die in painful and agonizing way.

If you have to kill then use a rifle and do the job properly!
