Please help me with the grammar in this sentence?

The addition of a new eluent containing Imidazole; which has a higher affinity for the Ni2+ over the tagged protein, will interact competitively therefore causing the tagged protein to elute out.

U dont use a semicolon for a dependent clause between the subject and verb. The word therefore here is also incorrect. Use thus or use nothing. Nothing would be more the contemporary.

This is correct if there is only one thing called Imidazole in the whole world. If there are more, then the commas around "which has a higher affinity for the Ni2+over the tagged protein" should be omitted.
