what was this beagle doing?

hi there

was deer hunting in northern ontario canada, was 30 yards from beagle when she came by me on the trail of a deer (seen the tracks in the snow) she is 4 months old and a good hunter, anyway she was running when suddenly she skided to a stop with her whole body flatened to the ground about 2 feet to the right of the deer track, she laid that way for maybe 20 seconds then she lifted her head straight up and started to run in roughly a 40 foot circle, when she hit the track she came in on she back tracked on it out of sight, her owner said she came back to him and wouldn't run anything for the rest of the day, the next day she was fine and ran deer for us all day, seemed darned strange to us , whats your take on this situation?

Sounds like a dog I had at one time. The dog would be hunting ( squirrel dog ) and would just hit the ground and lay there for several seconds before coming out of it. The vet said the dog was suffering from seizures. They eventually got so bad I would not hunt him anymore.

I don't know... where I come from a dog chasing deer becomes a dead dog REAL quickly.
