Vegetarians - would you eat synthetic 'meat'?

If science could analyse the structure of (say) bacon and reproduce it entirely synthetically (possibly without nerves; no possibility of any feeling) would you eat it?

If not, would you still have an ethical objection to it?

Update:

If there is a different between plant and animal proteins - then synthetically made animal protein (don't know enough about biology though!). Not manipulated plant protein. This is basically bacon but without pigs, not "quite like bacon" bacon made from plants.

I guess I shouldn't be answering this question since I am no vegetarian. You see I have been a meat and potato all of my life, and really don't intend on changing. I use to eat all kinds of meats deer, elk, pig, moose, beef, turkey and chickens. I have pretty much give all those up except beef, I love my red meat.

I have tried those processed fake meats, and they were terrible, I will never make that mistake again, I will just stick with real beef cut from a steer. Those animals were put here to eat, and I have slaughtered hundreds of them, so I am going to keep eating them. I wouldn't be a Wolf if I stopped eating meat.

Now it like someone else said, if they invented a machine like on Star Trek, I just might give up eating red meat.

Yes, I was a vegetarian for 35 or so years. I started eating meat again after two heart attacks convinced me that I was in need of the animal energy that is found in meat. However, even now that I am a meat lover, I would gladly switch to a synthetic if it met my needs.

There are entire lines of food made from synthetic meat, usualyl made from soy protein, and they are available at any grocery store.

So it appears that a decent number of people --enough to keep the companies going-- have accepted them.

    yeah man !

just like onboard star trek voyager - where they use that machine thing, that makes u want to drink or eat !

    yeah !

    lol

    interesting question.

lets say meat - real meat could be created but not at the cost of slaughtering an animal, would any of you vegetarians/non-meaters consider it ?

    nice question mate ! ^_^

as for that machine that makes grub on star trek voyager - i'd go nuts with it, pizza's , turkey on the bone, Souther Fried chicken wings, 1/4 cheeseburgers, lasagne - and any drink with my meals to go with it ! :))

No. I stay away from processed foods, and synthetic meat is about as processed as you can get.
