What If 2 Close Friends--One Catholic, The Other Chassidic--Were To Have Their Confirmation & Bar Mitzvah?
on the very same weekend. Both invited one another to each other's ceremony & reception.
How would they resolve this?
@Pdxmom: If you think all a Catholic kid has to do is attend Mass on Sunday in order to get Confirmed, you have some things to learn about Catholicism.
Catholic kids have to learn about the 7 Gifts Of the Holy Spirit, as well as learn about the lives of the Saints, in order to choose a Saint for his/her Patron.

No Hasidic person is ever setting foot inside a church. They're places of idolatry in Orthodox Judaism, and it's forbidden for a Jew to enter a place of avodah zarah.
The reception would be okay, though, and the Catholic person could go to the bar mitzvah if he/she wanted to. If the Catholic is a woman, though, she'd have to sit on the other side of the mechitzah with the rest of the women.

The Jewish friend has been preparing for his Bar Mitzvah for years, whereas I believe all the Catholic friend has to do is show up to church on Sunday for confirmation.
The Catholic friend could attend the ceremony on Friday night/Saturday morning. The Chassidic friend probably does not enter churches, but could attend a reception on Sunday.
My guess is that the Bar Mitzvah boy will not be socially available anytime during his Bar Mitzvah weekend, however.
